Orange Vigor Isopod Care Guide
Housing: Isopods are communal creatures and thrive in a spacious enclosure. A glass or plastic terrarium with a secure lid is recommended to maintain proper humidity levels. Ensure the lid has ventilation holes to prevent excess moisture buildup.
Substrate: Use a substrate that promotes moisture retention and provides hiding places. A mix of coconut fiber, sphagnum moss, and decaying leaves works well. Keep the substrate slightly damp but not waterlogged.
Temperature and Humidity: Orange Vigor Isopods prefer moderate temperatures between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Maintain a humidity level of around 70% to 80%. Mist the enclosure regularly to keep the humidity stable.
Feeding: Isopods are detritivores, which means they primarily feed on decaying organic matter. Provide a varied diet consisting of leaf litter, decaying wood, dried leaves, and vegetables like carrots, zucchini, and squash. You can also offer specialized isopod food available commercially.
Water Source: Isopods require a source of fresh water. Provide a small shallow dish with clean, chlorine-free water for them to drink. You can also mist the enclosure to increase humidity and provide water droplets for them to drink.
Maintenance: Regularly monitor the moisture levels, temperature, and cleanliness of the enclosure. Remove any uneaten food to prevent mold growth and replace the substrate when necessary.
Compatibility: Orange Vigor Isopods are generally peaceful and can coexist with other small, non-aggressive species. However, avoid keeping them with larger animals that may prey on or disturb them.
